FOCUS churches and immigration


The FOCUS Churches of Albany have identified the complex issue of immigration as one of four priorities to which they may respond with advocacy, collective participation by their covenant churches and affiliates, linking with community partners, and providing direct service. 


According to the latest FOCUS newsletter, their Immigration Task Force, which will reconvene in September, is in need of "a few more friends within the FOCUS Community to join this work."

And so it begins

This is the continuation of a blog with the same name that lived on the website of the Albany Times Union for more than seven years until last week, when the newspaper decided to end that service. I am grateful to the staff of the paper for giving me the opportunity to reach out to their large audience and develop a following that was concerned about the role of religion in our public life. We in the Capital District are blessed to have an interfaith community that willingly shares its beliefs without feeling the necessity to attack those who believe differently. The 14 th  Annual Interfaith Panel Discussion sponsored by the Greenville Area Interfaith Council will explore the question “Can we control our own destiny?” on Sunday, August 27, from 4-5:30 p.m. at the Greenville Public Library, 11177 SR Route 32.
